Mojito at home: the classic recipe and 3 variations
Quick answer: a classic mojito is 50 ml white rum, 20 ml lime juice, 15–20 ml Mint-Lime syrup (or 2 tsp sugar and mint leaves), soda water to top, and plenty of ice. Muddle the mint, add the rest, stir gently — don't shake it.
The most common mistake is over-muddling the mint into a paste: the essential oils then turn bitter instead of fresh. A few gentle presses with a muddler or spoon are enough to release the aroma.
The second mistake is too little ice. A mojito is meant to be very cold and diluted with soda, so the glass should be packed with ice almost to the rim — otherwise the drink warms up quickly and turns cloying.
Variations with BrandBar syrups: strawberry mojito — replace half the Mint-Lime syrup with Strawberry; ginger mojito — add 10 ml Ginger syrup in place of some of the soda; alcohol-free — simply drop the rum, the syrup and soda proportions stay the same.
